The practice plan that doesn't need you to write the plan
Siobhan opens the case at 8.14pm on a Tuesday. She has forty minutes before she needs to shower and get to bed for an early shift. She tunes the violin, stares at the music stand, plays a scale, runs the first line of the Mozart, and spends the remaining thirty-five minutes thinking I should have structured this.
The Personal Trainer template knows the shape of a session
Music practice and a gym workout share the exact same structure. You have a main goal for the day (the big lift, or the tricky passage). You have a warm-up (scales). You have a circuit (etudes or sectionals). You have a cool-down. And you have a "what's next" that builds on what you just did.
The Personal Trainer template at jarvis lives for this. It doesn't care if your resistance is a barbell or a bow. It cares about the structure: why today is shaped this way, the main lifts with reps and rests, the coaching cues, the easier regression for when life gets in the way, and the what's next that connects this session to the next one.
The Routine is set once. Siobhan tells jarvis her instrument, her current pieces, her available days, and her orchestra schedule. That's it. No checking in. No prompt to rewrite.
Every morning a Delivery lands. The decision about what to practice today is already made. She just has to show up.

Here is what a Wednesday Delivery looks like
What you see is a finished session. It knows you skipped Tuesday, so it adjusted Wednesday to maintain technique. It gives you a way out (the regression) so you never skip entirely because the session looks too long. And it asks one question that steers the next run.
**WEDNESDAY · SCALES & AURAL · ~35 MIN** **Why today is shaped this way** You skipped Tuesday. That's fine—Tuesday was going to be the heavy Mozart day anyway. We've slotted the scales work here instead so your technique doesn't slide, and we keep Thursday for the Mozart. **Main lift** — Flesch G major scale (3 octaves) · Set 1: Whole bows, whole notes, eyes closed (intonation focus). 2x. · Set 2: Detaché, rhythm pattern: long-short-short. 1x. · Set 3: Same rhythm, half tempo. 1x. Rest 30s between sets. **Easier regression** If you only have 15 minutes, just do Set 1 of the main lift. That's the whole session. Everything else is a bonus. **Tell me for next time:** What was the hardest part of this session?
Where this stops being the right tool
For the student preparing for an exam, a real teacher's ear is irreplaceable. This is a coach, not a conductor. It assumes you know the basics and just need to be steered.
But for the intermediate player whose barrier to practice is never the instrument, but the decision of what to practice? This Routine hands back that decision. You spend your energy on the practice, not the plan.
If you have an instrument gathering dust because you never know where to start, or a workout you keep skipping because the app feels too generic, take the trial. Set a Routine on the Personal Trainer template. Tell it your instrument, your available days, your current pieces.
The first Delivery arrives tomorrow morning. No setup beyond that.
